Prep for Summer Festivals: 4 Artists to Cut Your Teeth On

Here are 4 artists we’re dying to see this summer…

BØRNS

Gotta start with this Michigan native! – BØRNS spent months living in an LA tree house, weaving notes together into a magical, psychedelic blend of folk, glam and electro rock. Bearing some similarity to Freddy Mercury, BØRNS got a Swift push into the spotlight when Taylor herself recommended him. Check out this song – my personal favorite of his: 10,000 Emerald Pools

Kaytranada

This Haitian-Canadian producer and Soundcloud champion is getting lots of love for his remix of Rihanna’s “Kiss it Better” (listen to that here). His recent album 99.9% is “one of the most well-edited, coherent debuts to emerge in recent memory” and his SICK BEATS will be sure to hypnotize any crowd you find yourself in.

The Strokes

Oh my god The Strokes are back at it again with “Future Present Past” – get a first listen HERE. If Julian Casablancas didn’t win your heart with their first handful of albums, give him another chance at it this summer. Let his wild, wistful voice vibrating atop tightly controlled guitar picks and beats wash over you in person.

Bully

What the shit Bonnaroo – killer lineup we can’t choose just one artist to be excited about… LCD Soundsystem (!), Tame Impala, M83, Miguel, St Lucia, Kurt Vile, Purity Ring, CHVRCHES, Father John Misty, Haim (they’re everywhere!).

Let’s just go with one (maybe) lesser known option: Bully. Find yourself wishing for the blunt, unapologetically feminine confessional you haven’t heard since Liz Phair’s Exile in Guyville? (Don’t write Liz off. Seriously, give her first album a listen.) In more recent memory, do you like Alvvays and Best Coast (who could say no)? Then try this song by Bully on for size: Trying.
