If you’re reading this, it’s June. Yes, we’re six months into 2016 and there’s no looking back. If those new year resolutions didn’t hold up by now, you might want to reconsider some new hobbies or life choices. It’s ok. Summer is around the corner, and we’re looking ahead for you so that you can be in-the-know on cool shit happening (to put it bluntly). These “look aheads” were one of the things we immediately excited about working on when we started this blog. A collection of events, highlights, and fun factoids to keep an eye out on in the next few weeks. With June officially blasting off today, here’s a breakdown of the best that’s yet to come.
New Stuff on Netflix (like OITNB Season 4)!!!
Sure it may be 70 plus degrees outside, but there’s also loads of new movies and shows to binge on. So fire up the popcorn, bust out the house shorts and beverages for some long nights with your TV and Netflix account. Feast your eyes on movies like Spotlight (June 22), or all three OG Jurassic Park films (June 1!!!) but more importantly, get ready to head back to Litchfield Penitentiary w/ Piper and the gang in a brand new season of Orange Is The New Black (June 17th).
Music Festival Season (Governors Ball + Bonnaroo + more)
Discounting SXSW because #tech and Coachella because southern California weather is unworldly and doesn’t have to adhere to normal rules. June marks the kick-off of the festival circuit with two heavy hitters in Bonnaroo (June 9-12) and Governors Ball (June 3-5). For those of you lucky enough to snag tickets, we hate you. You get to enjoy sets from the likes of Kanye West, Robyn, LCD Soundsystem, The Killers, Pearl Jam, Mac Miller, and more. For those of us scared of sun burns, Camelbaks, and sweaty bros, you’ll be able to safely stream the best sets from the comfort of your laptop.
The Longest Day of the Year/ Official Start to Summer!
For those of us that enjoy an excessive amount of Vitamin D, June 20th is a major holiday since it is officially the most amount of daylight of the year. The summer solstice also marks the official kick off of Summer. So throw on those flip flops, maybe take a bike ride to your local ice cream parlor, and bask in those rays for the most amount of time possible.
Last but not least, Father’s Day!
Perhaps the most important June holiday (outside of those of you who have a June birthday I suppose), we couldn’t forget about all the Dads out there. On June 19th, you are obligated to laugh at his bad jokes, not rolling your eyes when he decides to call the waitress by their first name, and maybe even letting him go do his thing for a few hours, be it a round of golf or a ride on his old, weird looking motorcycle. Consider this one your friendly reminder to buy a gift sooner than later this year!
